Veteran Factory Five racer Ed Gaven had been bringing me his Factory five for annuals for a year or so. We did some bench racing whenever he came by; he mentioned often his desire to race in the Pike’s Peak Hillclimb. A couple of months before the 2006 climb he called me up, said he was going to run, but needed the roll bar on his Factory 5 Spec Racer extended into a full cage to meet the requirements of the race. Here are the pictures of the car under construction and finished. Note that a complex compound curve bar was added just below the top of the door panels, out of sight, that bar was plated on the driver’s side for better protection.
